A Mindful Minute…Fabulous feet in your class or anywhere…
Because one minute can change the course of the next hour.
Our feet are totally fabulous! They carry us all day long through the ups and downs hills and slopes that life throws our way. Let’s dedicate the next minute to our feet and direct our attention and awareness to our soles.
Ages 5 to 95
1. Set a timer for one minute.
2. Youcan be sitting in a chair or standing. If standing bend your knees slightly.
3. Eyes may be closed or open.
4. Draw your attention to bottom of your feet.
5. Direct your attention to the feeling or the experience of your feet against the ground, the inside of your socks or shoes.
5.We are going focus on our feet for one minute.
6.If your mind starts to wander and you start thinking about a book you are reading or something a friend has said, simple bring your attention back to your feet.
7.Take a deep breath. Let’s begin- Start the timer.
8.After wards: what did you notice?
Mindful Mathematics: It is entirely possible that your students, or you for that matter, will not be able to focus on the bottom of your feet for even a minute without your thoughts wandering.
One way to do this is to get your students to put their hand up every time they lose focus. You can plot on a graph when they loose attention or you can keep a tally of the time students were able to maintain their focus and see how they improve over time.
This is meditation. It has all the components without the crossed legs, mantra’s, mudras or chanting of OM.
